Air Valve Sizing Calculator

The valve sizing calculator will assist you in determining how much flow will be necessary for a valve that is driving one (or several) cylinders. Simply input the air pressure, cylinder bore & stroke, time per half-cycle, and number of cylinders.

Flow will be reported in both cubic feet per minute (CFM) and in Cv rating. While the Cv rating is a useful inherent property of the valve, it is often required to know how much air will be flowing through it. A flow rate (CFM) is dependent on the supply pressure. The calculator below will use the following formula to convert between CFM and Cv using the following formula:

  • Cv = CFM Rating
  • Factor

Use the table below to determine the "Factor" in the above equation. This will be dependent on supply pressure.

Pressure (PSI) 40 50 60 70 80 90 100
Factor 0.0370 0.0312 0.0270 0.0238 0.0212 0.0192 0.0177
