Rotational Actuators
The Rotomation line provides pneumatic and low pressure hydraulic rotary actuators operating at typical pressures of 80 and 500 psi, respectively.
Rotomation manufactures high speed, heavy duty pneumatic actuators that produce several shaft motions. All products are extremely configurable, which gives users maximum flexibility in their design.
Choose rotation options from bidirectional rotation between two, three, four, or five positions, and unidirectional rotation in steps. Each rotary motion can be combined with linear motion in a single, independently-controlled actuator.

Product Lineup
Rotary Actuators
Basic rotary actuators provide back and forth rotation between two positions. All Rotomation rotary actuators feature black-anodized aluminum bodies, one-piece heat-treated alloy steel pinion shafts, ball bearings, and stainless steel or black-oxide alloy steel hardware.

Indexing Actuators
Indexing Actuators provide unidirectional rotation in fixed precise steps to hard stops. These actuators also prevent backward rotation and feature no accumulating error. All Rotomation indexing actuators feature black-anodized aluminum bodies, precision-ground carbon steel shafts, ball bearings, and stainless steel hardware. How They Work Extended Pawl Shaft

Stepping Actuators
Stepping Actuators provide unidirectional rotation in steps, like indexing actuators, but without the hard stops. These actuators also prevent backward rotation but incurr in accumulating error. Use these actuator whenever you need torque to be applied throughout a desired angle or a specific amount of stroke but do not mind if your load coasts to a stop if no external force acts on it.

Multi-Position Actuators (up to 5 positions)
Multi-position actuators provide back and forth rotation between three, four, or five positions in any sequence. All Rotomation multi-position actuators feature black-anodized aluminum bodies, one-piece heat-treated alloy steel pinion shafts, ball bearings, and stainless steel or black-oxide alloy steel hardware.

Pick & Place Actuators (Multi-Motion Actuators)
Basic pick & place actuators combine a rotary section with a linear cylinder to provide independently-controlled linear and rotary motion. These actuators are also known as multi-motion actuators, and even though their rotary sections provide rotary motion, they can also provide stepping motion in certain sizes (contact us for more information). All Rotomation pick & place actuators feature black-anodized aluminum bodies, stressproof steel rods, ball bearings, and stainless steel hardware.

Nitpicker Actuators
Nitpicker Actuators provide independently-controlled combined indexing (unidirectional rotation in fixed steps to hard stops) rotation with linear motion. These actuators also prevent backward rotation and feature no accumulating error. All Rotomation nitpicker actuators feature black-anodized aluminum bodies, stressproof steel rod, ball bearings, and stainless steel hardware.

Shaft Mounting Adapters
- Stocked with standard hole patterns or plain, both with center tapped hole and reference c'bore concentric with shaft bore within .001 TIR
- Seamlessly mount your load to most of our actuators featuring standard shafts, 3/8″ diameter or larger
- Hole patterns can be easily added to any 'N' type SMA 2
- Male or female pilots easily machined onto any SMA 2 with standard ±.001″ tolerance on the diameter, or better if necessary
- Made from clear-anodized high strength aluminum alloy
- SMAs shipped installed on actuators (if ordered together) or with all necessary installation hardware
- Mount to Rotomation actuators or adapt easily for other applications
Hydraulic Swing Clamps
The CL5 hydraulic swing clamp is used specifically to automate the clamping of parts onto machine tables or fixtures. Like our pick & place actuators (e.g. PA2), the linear and rotary sections are independently-controlled. This feature allows the clamp to be stowed in the retracted position, out of the way of tools or part changing activity, which is an important advantage over typical cam-operated swing clamps. With aluminum body/cap and chrome-plated stainless steel rod, it is designed to stand up to aggressive flood coolants.
