Valves Prepared for Oxygen Service

Valves Prepared for Oxygen ServiceSelect Humphrey standard catalog valves can be assembled and processed for use in certain medical applications, such as air, oxygen or other gas delivery.

  • Valves are assembled and tested in a controlled environment by trained and qualified personnel.
  • All components will receive the appropriate qualified cleaning process using only oxygen compatible solution and dried before use.
  • All components will be used immediately or stored in an appropriately controlled environment.
  • Assembly equipment, tooling and test fixtures are cleaned and inspected prior to every production run.
  • During assembly and test all components shall be handled only with approved powder free neoprene gloves.
  • All finished assemblies shall be tested using clean dry compressed air filtered with particulate and mist filters.
  • All finished assemblies will be packaged in a sealed bag before leaving the controlled work area.

Real World Example of Custom Build

Portable Oxygen Concentrator Manifold

Humphrey Oxygen Concentrator
Customer requires custom designed manifold to meet stringent specifications that are not met by off-the-shelf products, for use in a portable oxygen concentrator.

The request is for a three-valve manifold assembly with custom mounting locations. Each valve provides a different function. One controls oxygen delivery, the other two (pressure equalization and  bleed valve) control production of oxygen in the sieve bed, where nitrogen atoms are removed from atmospheric air.

Due to the precise nature of the end product, target flow rates are a critical requirement and valves must meet a four million life cycle test.

Since this is a portable product, additional requirements include: very tight size and weight limits and low current consumption to meet battery life expectations.


Humphrey Oxygen ConcentratorCustomer is delivered a custom manifold, with three HK5 diaphragm/poppet solenoids (Two modified for 0.8 Watts current consumption), modified Humphrey Quick Exhaust valves with unique shuttle design used as check valves, special low profile fittings used to reduce overall size.

Additionally, these valve assemblies are shipped to meet an extremely short production deadline.
