Guided Cylinder Slides

Pneumatic Guided Cylinder Slide – P5E Series

Parker Pneumatic Cylinder
The P5E series guided cylinder is designed to be a lighter weight solution for standard duty linear motion applications. Two parallel precision ground case hardened, or stainless steel, support shafts are guided by four linear bushings and incorporated into the body assembly. The bearings are prelubricated to provide millions of trouble-free cycles. Composite bushings are standard with all three shaft styles and available with oversized shafting. Optional linear ball bearings are available with stainless steel shafting only. The P5E series features a one-piece cast aluminum body with tapped and counterbored mounting holes. Standard dowel pin holes provide precision mounting for the body and tool plate. The P1D cylinder utilizes an alignment coupler which prevents the piston rod from deflecting under high loads or long strokes. Standard piston wear bands allow the piston rod assembly to “float” in the bore thereby eliminating metal-to-metal contact. The result is dramatically greater cylinder seal life especially when the support shafts deflect under load. This ensures very long cylinder life with reduced maintenance and downtime.

  • Bore sizes: 32, 40, 50, 63, 80, and 100 mm

Standard dowel pin holes provide precision mounting for the body and tool plate. The power behind the HBT series is Parker’s premium NFPA aluminum, steel, or ISO cylinder. The HBT utilizes an alignment coupler which prevents the piston rod from deflecting under high loads or long strokes. Standard piston wear bands allow the piston rod assembly to “float” in the bore thereby eliminating metal-to-metal contact. The result is dramatically greater cylinder seal life especially when the support shafts deflect under load. This ensures very long cylinder life with reduced maintenance and downtime. Available options include 3-position cylinders and slides without cylinders. Consult factory for other application needs.

  • Low Temperature Version : for use in an environment with low temperatures ( down to -40°C )
  • End Face Air Connection : in some situations it is necessary or desirable to fit a special end cap with the air connection on the end-face instead of the standard end cap with the air connection on the side. The special end cap can also be rotated 4 x 90° to locate the cushion adjustment screw as desired. Bore sizes Ø16 – 80 mm
  • Both Air Connections at One End : a special end cap with both air connections on one side is available for situations where shortage of space, simplicity of installation or the nature of the process make it desirable. Air supply to the other end is via internal air passages (OSP-P25 to P80) or via a hollow aluminium profile fitted externally (OSP-P16). In this case the end caps cannot be rotated. Bore sizes Ø16 – 80 mm
  • Integrated 3/2 Way VOE Valves : for optimal control of the OSP-P cylinder, 3/2 way valves integrated into the cylinder’s end caps can be used as a compact and complete solution. • Clevis Mounting : carrier with tolerance and parallelism compensation for driving loads supported by external linear guides.
  • End Cap Mounting : for end-mounting of the cylinder.
  • Mid Section Support : to avoid excessive bending and oscillation of the cylinder, mid-section supports are required dependent on specified stroke lengths and applied loads. The diagrams show the maximum possible support spacings depending on the load. Bending up to max. 0.5 mm is permissible between supports. The mid section supports are clamped on to the dovetail profile of the cylinder tube. They are also able to take the axial forces.
  • Tandem Cylinder : two pistons are fitted for higher load capacity and increased support.
  • Inversion Mounting : the inversion mounting transfers the driving force to the opposite side, e. g. for dirty environments. Bore sizes Ø16 – 80 mm
  • Basic Guide Version : integrated directly into the cylinder profile tube, closing the gap between the standard version of the OSP-P rodless linear actuators and their combination with the external Slideline plain bearing guide. Option Overview:

FKM (fluoro elastomer) scraper for high chemical resistance:

For use in applications where chemicals may affect the scraper in the front end plate, an option with a scraper in FKM rubber for better chemical resistance must be used. Temperature range -10 to +80°C.

Metal Scraper Ring:

Standard scraper ring cannot be used in environments where the piston rod may be coated with resin, ice, cement, sugar crystals, dough, etc., primarily in timber handling, refrigerated / chilled transport, cement industry, chemicals and food and drinks. The build-up of hard abrasive coatings on the piston rod can damage the standard scraper ring and shorten service life. A metal scraper ring with a stainless steel carrier, brass outer scraper ring and a nitrile rubber inner scraper ring is an option for all diameters of P1F-T cylinders. This metal scraper has to be used with a hard-chromium plated piston rod. Temperature range -30 to +80°C.

High Temperature:

All seals in the high temperature version of P1F-T are developed and validated for continuous operation up to +150°C. The combination of the seal geometry and the fluoro elastomer (FKM) material ensures reliable and long service life. Certain restrictions apply when choosing sensors due to the temperature range. High temperature cylinders have no magnetic piston and cannot be fitted with sensors (the magnetic field strength in high temperatures is too low to ensure correct reliable sensor function). The key for reliable operation of pneumatic cylinders in high temperatures is the seal and grease system. It takes thorough testing to arrive at the optimum and proven technology.

  • Seals in proven fluoro elastomer (FKM) material for reliability and long service life.
  • Dedicated high temperature grease with a special formula is vital for the performance of the cylinder.
  • The combined system of seals and grease developed for P1F-T is the key for the excellent function in the temperature range -10 to +150°C.

Low Temperature:

All seals in the low temperature version of P1F-T are developed and validated for continuous operation down to -40°C. Ultrathan polyurethane (TPU-PUR) seal technology and specifically formulated grease support performance and reliability for low temperature applications. Option Overview:

FKM (fluoro elastomers) scraper for high chemical resistance:

A metal scraper ring with a stainless steel carrier, brass outer scraper ring and a nitrile rubber inner scraper ring is an option for all diameters of P1F-S cylinders. This metal scraper has to be used with a hard-chromium plated piston rod. Temperature range -30 to +80°C.

High Temperature:

All seals in the high temperature version of P1F-S are developed and validated for continuous operation up to +150°C.

  • The combined system of seals and grease developed for P1F-S is the key for the excellent function in the temperature range -10 to +150°C.

Low Temperature:

All seals in the low temperature version of P1F-S are developed and validated for continuous operation down to -40°C. Ultrathan polyurethane (TPU-PUR) seal technology and specifically formulated grease support performance and reliability for low temperature applications. As standard supplied with a magnetic ring in the piston for proximity sensing but please note that the sensors are normally specified for full performance to -30°C only. Parker have combined the most sought after features of seal technology to provide low temperature pneumatic cylinders with high reliability, low leakage and long service life.

  • Seals engineered for low temperature in ultrathan polyurethane (TPU-PUR), formulated specifically for optimal performance, in the temperature range -40 to +80°C.
  • Seal material retains its elastic properties with maintained performance even at extreme low temperatures.
  • Low temperature characteristics but maintaining superior wear resistance.
  • Smooth proven profile.

Piston rod in different materials:

  • Hard-chromium plated austenitic steel DIN C45E.

ATEX Certification: An atmosphere with the potential to become an explosive atmosphere during operating conditions and / or under the influence of the surroundings is defined as a potentially explosive atmosphere. Products covered by directive 94/34/EC are defined as intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. Smooth profile P1F-A cylinders can be supplied ATEX certified for use in these type of environments, temperature restriction -20 to +60°C.

Rod-Lock Cylinders

ISO 15552 Pneumatic Cylinders, Dynamic Rod Lock – P1F-L Series

Parker Pneumatic Cylinder
The P1F-L in bore sizes Ø32 to 125mm is an ISO 15552 linear pneumatic cylinder for standard temperature (-20 to +80°C) with an integrated air/spring dynamic rod lock allowing the piston rod to be braked or locked in any position. Incorporating a powerful piston rod locking device, which clamps the piston rod and locks it in position. The locking device is a spring lock with an air pressure release and is mounted to the front plate of the cylinder. In the absence of an air signal pressure, full holding force is applied to the piston rod. When air is present at a certain minimum pressure the locking device is released.

The piston rod lock can be used in all material handling systems where controlled fastening or positioning is required. The piston rod lock is also suitable for use as a pressure-loss brake for cylinders with suspended loads.

The P1F-L rod lock cylinder is available for cylinder bores Ø32 to 125mm. The design provides several valuable characteristics, such as:

  • A high holding force.
  • The front plate and locking device are built into a common block for compact installation.
  • Exhaust air from the locking device can be piped away from when there are demands for a contamination free environment.

The design is easy to clean, sealed and waterproof. The exhaust air from the lock unit can be removed by replacing the filter unit with a connector and hose. This is an advantage in terms of cleaning or when environmental factors are important.

Like all P1F cylinders this series is supported by a full range of ISO mountings, sensors and is suitable for wide range of general typical industrial applications. Note that these units are not certified for use in safety systems.
